Too much going on here to wait until *after* the meeting for a summary. Here's what's happening:
  1. I met with Tom Murray the building renovation manager again this past Saturday. We continue to deal with issues as they arise. Tom was good enough to get this all down on paper, for the record. Here goes:

    1. They offered us a combination argon CO2 suppression system as opposed to water sprinklers. However, the university is not prepared to fund this system which would run @$4,000 + electrical work. This is just not viable for us--cost prohibitive. Meanwhile, I spoke at length with an adjuster from Albert Wohlers Co., and after some discussion, they agreed to cover us in the event of accidental or incidental water damage from water sprinklers with no increase in our already (too) high premium. So, that's the best we could do. We are definitely insured vs. water damage and the sprinkler system will be installed in the room sometime next week.

    2. Tom gave me information on a carpet company (Harvard approved) who would be willing to give us university prices. The company is Trinkle Design and I spoke with them today. They sound very nice and I think we can work out a deal to our benefit here. I'll speak with them again tomorrow. Then the manager will bring over some swatches and do the installation in one day. They don't mind moving our stuff around the room either to do the complete installation, which will save us from further hernias. Good progress here.

    3. They are "expediting the new ladder" so we will have access to the roof soon.

    4. Finally, we have an agreement that states, "the project will pay all reasonable expenses relating to the reinstallation of the antenna that was previously fastened to the chimney." Tom understands that this means the purchase of a new HF antenna to replace the old Hygain, the purchase of a new rotor, cables, and all labor associated with reinstallation. Where this limits us is in getting a new tower out of the university as opposed to using the old mast. The mast is still in fine shape, so unless we decide to pick up the tab for a new tower ourselves, we'll reuse the masting for this reinstallation.

  2. Dave Greisinger's annual check came through this week ($575) and has been deposited in the checking account.

  3. Tomorrow (Tuesday 1/19) PSI, our heating unit people will come to do a cleaning of the unit at 1:00PM. This should put an end to the soot problem. Hopefully this will be neither an expensive nor complicated job. I'll let them in and will ask the construction foreman to lock up the room when they are finished.

  4. This Friday afternoon (1/22) Larry Mulvahill, the CQ photographer will be coming to Cambridge to shoot his cover photo in the shack. I've been working with Frank & Nick to set up a time that will not intrude on their studies. We'll hash out the final details at the meeting Tuesday.

  5. Dave, have you been able to crank out a larger photo for printing? I have the obverse done in draft, pending input from all.

Tomorrow at the meeting, we had best do a thorough cleaning and polishing in the shack for the sake of a respectable photo. And *then* maybe we can get on the radio. 73, Mike
