HWC Shield Harvard Wireless Club Bulletin
April 21, 1999
Hello HWC:

  1. Mike Manafo, our faithful scribe and trustee, is away in Florida working on his tan. Despite the handicap of his being "portable four" I've received several club-related e-mails from Mike this week. Enjoy the time off, Mike!

  2. The turn out was small for last night's HWC meeting. Frank, N3OQB and I met informally in the hallway, and later, in the shack for about a half an hour total time. While outside, we heard the phone ringing. We tried our best to unlock the door and answer in time, but we missed by one ring. (QRZ? K3UOC/4? :-)

  3. In my haste to enter the room, I brushed up against the benches still wet with paint. I now have a nice dark brown streak on my light brown pants, since I forgot to soak them when I got home. Oh well. The good news is, the room is coming along nicely. When I was last in the shack on Sunday, the place resembled a disaster area. There is now order where before only chaos.

  4. As reported on our worldwide web page at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~w1af/flea0499.html , the Flea at MIT was a huge success. We had good HWC representation this month, in the form of N1EXQ, K1XQ, and myself. I'll be e-mailing or speaking to all of you soon to get an accurate head count for next month.

  5. Edson, N1VTN, and I have been discussing PSK31 over lunch recently. I have a Yaesu FT-757GXII HF transceiver that is not being used at the moment. I'd like to make it available for an HWC PSK31 setup. Edson may have a LINUX box he supply temporarily, too. This is a very exciting mode--really cutting-edge stuff! For more information, see the article, "PSK31--Has RTTY's Replacement Arrived?", page 41 in the May 1999 QST.

  6. I'll be out of town for six days later today; I hope that someone can grab the mail until Mike gets back in town on Friday.

    73,
    Phil, K9HI
