HWC Shield Harvard Wireless Club Bulletin, May 2, 2000

Hello HWC,

As you recall, W1AF (piloted by KO1O) finished #5 in the 1999 CW section of the Collegiate Championship. The four finishers ahead of Bill were all M/M entrants. Here's a little statistic on the competition you might appreciate -- % of score reduced due to logging errors. Bill turned in a remarkably accurate log, I think you will agree. Good job, OM! W1KBN, with a 0.00% accuracy had only a handful of contacts. NC State and Baylor need a little practice!

SS CW Score reduction

CALL SCORE REDUCTION
W6YX 4.37
W5YM 7.86
W6UE 5.02
W8EDU 8.42
W1AF 1.38
N5XU 8.64
W4ATC 18.57
N9UC 3.89
W4AQL 24.44
W0EEE 12.05
WA5BU 22.97
W1KBN 0.00
W7UNR 8.33

This is a significant improvement over last year, when the average score reduction for college clubs on CW was around 20%. It looks like five schools won their section (W6YX, W6UE, W1AF, N5XU, and W4AQL) but nobody won their division or got into the top ten. W8EDU, W4AQL, and W6YX did finish in their respective regional top five. So, further contrats to KO1O for winning EMA in the CW Sweepstakes!

We await the SSB final tallies from ARRL, although I doubt there will be any change in the overall Collegiate Championship standings. You recall that W1MX put in a halfhearted effort in SSB and still thrashed W1AF. Highly embarrassing.

The Mass QSO Party is this coming weekend! Although the 1999 official results are still not reported (a pox on Framingham ARC), W1AF had the highest QSO total and should be declared the winner shortly. I keep my fingers crossed that W1AF can put together another winning effort this weekend.

Sincerely,

Mike, K3UOC
Trustee, W1AF
