Alka Seltzer Rockets and Popcorn

Materials:

film canisters
water
seltzer tablets
pop rocks
popcorn kernels
air popper
cups (for distributing popcorn)

Procedure:

following the lesson plan of matt thrasher and richie mccormack (10/25/99) which used
alka seltzer to explain expansion of gases. we are going to use the same procedure using
the alka seltzer rockets and pop rocks to explain how the water inside popcorn turns to
a gas when it is heated, expands, and thus makes the corn kernel 'pop.'
