Carbonation
Third grade Chemistry lesson

Materials:

sprite, raisins, baking soda, vinegar,
balloons, plastic cups, water

Procedure:

1)define carbonation, discuss it in our daily lives (soda, oxygen in
water - fish)(write on worksheet)
2)carbon dioxide is the gas dissolved in the liquid to make soda, plants
take it in and give off oxygen and we do the opposite
3)balloon half-filled with baking soda, balloon on flask with vinegar, dump
baking soda in balloon into flask, balloon blows up, ask and explain why
(write on worksheet)
4)explain how this applies to the "volcano"
5)raisins in sprite, they go up with the bubbles in their wrinkles and fall
down when they reach the surface
raisins in water sink
(draw and explain on worksheet)
