Group Members: Manoj and Kate
School: Tobin
Teacher: Laura Groff
Materials:
bowls detergent water wire yarn bubble blower
Procedure:
First, we will review surface tension briefly. Then, we will blow some bubbles and talk about why surface tension makes bubbles (soap on inside and outside). We will explain why pure water doesn't make bubbles and have different tables test different amounts of soap to see how much soap is needed to make a good bubble making solution. Then, we will talk about why air pressure makes bubbles round and have each child make a differently shaped bubble blower to test this. We will finish with them making flat films (like bubbles) by dipping yarn in soapy water and seeing what wet and soapy or dry hands do to the film. Then, we'll clean up.
