Guidelines for Submissions
WHO CAN SUBMIT
- Submissions to Zalacain are accepted only from Harvard affiliates:
undergraduates, graduate students, and professors. However, there will be a
few exceptions. The editorial board can invite other people to submit
pieces.
WHAT TO SUBMIT
- Zalacain is meant to present the richness and variety of Latin America, to
promote awareness and understanding of the region and Latin Americans'
involvement in society. It is a discussion of the literary, socio-economic,
cultural, and political concerns of the Harvard community with any interest
or affiliation to Latin America.
- We welcome academic essays, personal essays, photo essays, art reviews,
book reviews, cartoons, and original student works of poetry/short fiction
of any style and any length.
- There are no restricting thematic & topical guidelines, just as long
as the piece is linked to Latin America. We also welcome works that touch
upon the Latino/a experience within the United States.
- We accept submissions in any language. However, we primarily seek
submissions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, the indigenous tongues of Latin
America or any combination of those. We will evaluate publishing pieces in
other languages as long as we deem it is appropriate to the piece and fits
within the context of the issue. The only things translated will be pieces
that are just that, translations.
- A note on Book Reviews: Make sure that you review books that are new. We
need reviews to be newsworthy. Also, remember to let us know what you're
reviewing before you do it so we don't have two people reviewing the same
book at once.
- Please do not submit anything that has been previously published.
WHEN TO SUBMIT
- DEADLINE: Saturday, November 1st, 2003
- Manuscripts submitted well before the deadline will probably receive
closer attention.
- We will respond to all submissions three weeks after the deadline, at the
latest.
WHERE TO SUBMIT
- Submit your pieces by dropping them off in the Zalacain Submissions box in
the Woodberry Poetry room located on the fifth floor of Lamont library. The
poetry room is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is
closed on Saturdays, and open Sundays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- If you cannot make it, please submit electronically in Word Document
(.doc) format as an attachment via email to zalacain@hcs.

Please use Times New Roman 12 point font.

number, and e-mail address at the bottom of your document.
