11.18 Poetry Slam13

While SOL’s purpose does not revolve around competition, we host a number of competitive slams throughout the year. For the past two years, SOL has sent a team of 5 poets to the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational.

What is slam?
Slam poetry is form of performance poetry that occurs within a competitive poetry event, called a “slam,” at which poets perform their own poems that are judged on a numeric scale by randomly picked members of the audience.

What is CUPSI?
Each year, ACUI produces the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) offering an opportunity for campuses with new or existing Poetry Slam programs to compete for top honors and to share their wit and talent. And everyone is enriched by sharing poetry, embracing the value of inclusivity, and supporting a program in which “Everyone’s voice is welcome.”

The 13th College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational will be in Colorado at University of Colorado-Boulder, March 12-15, 2014.

How can I get involved?

To be a part of Speak Out Loud’s slam team, you must compete in the SOL Spring Slam. Look out for information on our mailing list this year or contact harvardsol@gmail.com with any questions.

Sending Harvard’s CUPSI team requires significant funds. So please visit our Donate page to make a donation today!
