Sentimentarianism

By Daniel HyukJoon Choi

The sentiment that eventually sinks
to the bottom of every relationship
and what's left is the essential taste
and clarity of two or more people
who kill time together--
friendship is just that,
a conspiracy
to kill time,
to ostracize acquaintances,
keep a secret code,
and stab each other in the back,
but the important thing
is that we're comrades,
disseminators of a new ideology
where everybody deserves to die
except you and me,
like Hitler and Stalin,
two people who could have been best friends
if it hadn't been for that damn war.
Everything is superfluous
and replaceable
except you and me,
as we revolve around this axis
forever and ever and ever.
